Add a logo

How to Add a Logo to a Word Document

The classic way to brand a Word document — a letter, quote or report — is to put your logo in the header. It then appears in the same place on every page. Here’s how to insert it, position it and handle the first page.

Quick answer

Double-click the top of the page to open the header (or Insert → Header → Edit Header). Choose Insert → Pictures and select your logo. Use Layout Options → In Front of Text to drag it freely, resize it, then click Close Header and Footer. It now appears on every page.

How to put a logo in the header of a Word document

  1. Open the header

Double-click the top margin of any page, or go to Insert → Header → Edit Header.

  2. Insert the logo

Click Insert → Pictures → This Device and choose your logo file (PNG keeps transparency).

  3. Free the logo

Click the Layout Options icon next to the picture and choose In Front of Text (or Behind Text). Now you can drag it anywhere, even into the margin.

  4. Resize and position

Drag a corner to resize. For exact placement use Picture Format → Position → More Layout Options and set the horizontal and vertical position relative to the page or margin.

  5. Different first page (optional)

Tick Different First Page in the Header & Footer tab if the cover page should have a bigger logo or none at all.

  6. Close the header

Click Close Header and Footer or double-click the body text. The logo appears on all pages.

Add your logo as a faded watermark instead

To show the logo large and faded behind the text, use Design → Watermark → Custom Watermark → Picture watermark, select the logo and keep Washout ticked. See the full Word watermark guide.

Save it as a letterhead template

Once your header looks right, save the document as a template (File → Save As → Word Template (*.dotx)) so every new letter starts with your logo.

Already exported as PDF?

If you only have the PDF — or want to brand many PDFs at once — use Add logo to PDF: choose your logo, set the corner (top-right for a letterhead), pick all pages or only the first, and download. The PDF is never uploaded.

The faster way: add your logo without Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word works, but you repeat the process for every file. WatermarkOn applies the same logo to all your images and PDFs in one pass, directly in your browser:

  1. Open WatermarkOn and click “Choose logo” (a transparent PNG gives the cleanest edges; for JPG logos tick “Make white background transparent”).
  2. Drop in all the photos or PDFs you want to brand.
  3. Set the logo size, opacity (100% for a solid logo) and position — a corner preset, a percentage, or an exact pixel distance from any corner.
  4. Click “Add watermark” and download each file or everything as a ZIP.
