How to Add a Watermark in Google Slides

Google Slides doesn’t include a watermark option (Google Docs does, Slides doesn’t). You can still add one to all slides by editing the presentation’s theme. The trickiest part is transparency, because Slides can make images transparent but not text — here’s how to deal with both.

Quick answer

Open Slide → Edit theme, select the top master slide and insert your logo (Insert → Image). With it selected, open Format options → Adjustments and raise Transparency. Use Arrange → Order → Send to back, then close the theme builder — the watermark appears on every slide.

How to add a watermark to every slide in Google Slides

  1. Open the theme builder

Click Slide → Edit theme (in some versions View → Theme builder). Select the top master slide in the left panel so the watermark applies to all layouts.

  2. Insert your watermark image

Use Insert → Image → Upload from computer and choose your logo or a PNG of your watermark text.

  3. Make it transparent

Right-click the image → Format options → Adjustments and drag Transparency to 50–80%.

  4. Position and rotate

Resize and move the image. To rotate it, drag the round handle or set an angle under Format options → Size & Rotation.

  5. Send to back

Choose Arrange → Order → Send to back so it stays behind your text and images.

  6. Close the theme builder

Click the × at the top right of the theme builder. The watermark now shows on all slides and can’t be moved in normal editing.

How to add a text watermark in Google Slides

Text boxes in Slides can’t be made semi-transparent directly. Two workarounds:

  • Use a light color: insert a text box on the master and choose a very light grey (e.g. light grey 2). It looks faded on white slides but not on photos or dark backgrounds.
  • Use a transparent PNG: create an image of your text with a transparent background, insert it as an image and use the Transparency slider as above.

The easiest way: watermark the exported PDF

If you’re sharing the presentation, download it as PDF (File → Download → PDF document) and watermark the PDF with WatermarkOn. You get real semi-transparent text in any font and angle, an optional tiled pattern across each page, and the watermark can’t be removed by editing the theme. It’s also ideal for adding the recipient’s name to each copy.

The faster way: watermark without Google Slides

Google Slides gets the job done, but it was not built for watermarking. If you just need your name or logo on your files, WatermarkOn does it in your browser in under a minute:

  1. Open WatermarkOn and drop in your images or PDFs (as many as you want).
  2. Type your text or upload your logo (transparent PNG works best).
  3. Pick a position — a preset like centred or bottom-right, an exact percentage, or a pixel distance from any corner — then set opacity and rotation.
  4. Click “Add watermark” and download each file or everything as a ZIP.
