How to Add a Watermark in Canva

Canva doesn’t have a dedicated watermark feature, but its editor makes it easy to place a logo or text over a photo and make it semi-transparent. This guide shows the quickest way to do it and how to reuse the watermark across designs.

Quick answer

Open your photo in a Canva design, add your logo (Uploads) or a text box (Text), place it where you want, then click the Transparency icon (checkerboard) in the toolbar and lower it to 30–50%. Download the design via Share → Download.

How to watermark a photo in Canva

  1. Create a design with your photo

On the Canva home page click Create a design and choose Edit photo or a custom size, then upload your image and add it to the canvas.

  2. Add your logo or text

Go to Uploads and add your logo (a transparent PNG works best), or open Text and add a heading with your name or website.

  3. Resize and position

Drag the corner handles to resize and move the element into place. Use the Position menu to align it to a corner or the centre of the page.

  4. Set transparency

With the logo or text selected, click the Transparency icon (checkerboard pattern) in the top toolbar and lower the value to 30–60%.

  5. Download

Click Share → Download, choose PNG or JPG and download your watermarked image.

How to reuse your watermark in Canva

  • Duplicate the design and replace the photo each time.
  • Brand Kit (paid plans) stores your logos so they’re one click away.
  • Group the logo and text (Ctrl/Cmd + G) and copy-paste the group between designs.

Limitations of watermarking in Canva

  • No real batch option for photos: each image is a separate design. Bulk Create (paid) is built for data-driven templates, not for stamping a logo on 100 photos.
  • Image resizing: your photo is placed into a design size, so you need to match the dimensions to avoid cropping or quality loss.
  • Uploads: your photos are uploaded to Canva’s servers.

When all you want is your logo on a set of photos, WatermarkOn’s logo tool is faster: upload the logo once, drop in all your photos and download a ZIP — original sizes preserved and nothing uploaded.

The faster way: watermark without Canva

Canva gets the job done, but it was not built for watermarking. If you just need your name or logo on your files, WatermarkOn does it in your browser in under a minute:

  1. Open WatermarkOn and drop in your images or PDFs (as many as you want).
  2. Type your text or upload your logo (transparent PNG works best).
  3. Pick a position — a preset like centred or bottom-right, an exact percentage, or a pixel distance from any corner — then set opacity and rotation.
  4. Click “Add watermark” and download each file or everything as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Does Canva have a watermark tool?
Not a dedicated one. You add a logo or text over your image and reduce its transparency with the checkerboard icon in the toolbar.
How do I make my logo transparent in Canva?
Select the logo, click the Transparency (checkerboard) icon and lower the slider. To remove a white background from the logo itself, Canva’s Background Remover is a paid feature — or use the free white-removal option in WatermarkOn.
Can I watermark many photos at once in Canva?
Not efficiently. Each photo needs its own design. For bulk watermarking use a batch watermark tool.
